After lunch at Dulang, off to RS III Hostel. Our abode for the night. Clean and comfortable but lacks a kettle for hot drinks. We just could not wait to take a shower for it has been a long day. Rest for a while. 5 00 pm. Decided to go for an early dinner but when we came down, we saw rows of motorbikes.
Then it hit us that Cambodians are celebrating independence day and the King's Birthday. There was to be a firework at 7 00 pm. We walked for a while by the riverside but since it was still too early for the fireworks, we decided to cross over to the other side of the river, in search for halal food. Where there is a mosque, there is normally yummy food.
To get to the other side was horrendous. One, it was raining cats and dogs. Two, due to the celebration and the rain, macet / traffic jam. Riding in the rain and jam was no fun. Baca semua doa yg tahu. Alhamdulillah, AK managed to manoeuvre his way safely across the bridge.
Not knowing any stalls or restaurants, we just decided to stop at one. Stoy Food Halal. The waitress assumed that we are local. Lucky for us, there was Mariam, a girl who has been in Malaysia but has just been back to Phnom Penh for six months. She suggested for us to have barbecue beef. We went along with her suggestion and regret it not. One of the best barbecue beef we ever had. The price made it even so. USD 11 (RM41).
We heard the fireworks at 7 00 and watched it for a while. Let's just say we had seen better.
Iwak kutuk Iwak lele, mata ne ngantuk weteng nge lue. Well this is the other way around, weteng nge warek, mata nge ngantuk. Off we rode to the abode.
The first day is normally a bit hectic and disorganised for we were trying to familiarise ourselves with a whole lot of things - money, language, traffic, etc. But tried we did. Hoping that tomorrow we will be a bit more settled.
